(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans Athletic Director Dr. Michael Giorlando announced the hiring of Margot Frederick as head coach of the women’s volleyball team. Frederick joins the Wolf Pack after spending two seasons at The University of Texas-Pan American as the women’s volleyball assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. She is the fourth women’s volleyball coach in Loyola history.
“We were impressed by Margot’s knowledge, preparation, and energy during the process. She brings a wealth of experience at the Division I level as a coach and a player. Her ability to recruit talented student athletes nationally will be an asset to our program and the University. We look forward to her joining our team,” said Dr. Giorlando.
Frederick served under her former high school coach Brian Yale during two seasons with UTPA. Her primary responsibilities included training the setters and defensive players and serving as the recruiting coordinator. The 2012 Broncs team completed the best season since 2007 and earned the 3rd seed in the Great West Conference Tournament.
"After spending the day on the Loyola campus, I felt a strong connection to the University community personally and professionally. The members of the volleyball team impressed me as special young women, who are eager to succeed on and off the court. I look forward to sharing the Loyola experience with our recruits in the future as we work to build upon the successes of Wolf Pack volleyball," said Frederick.
Prior to UTPA, Frederick spent one season at Division III Muskingum University where she aided in recruiting, training defensive systems, coordinating team travel and scouting opponents. During her time with the Muskies, she helped the squad earn their 25th berth in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.
Frederick made her collegiate coaching debut at Illinois State University. As a member of the Redbirds’ staff, she worked as the Director of Volleyball Operations for two years. Her duties included coordinating team travel details, summer camps, campus visits and other administrative work. Prior to Illinois State, Frederick coached at West Lafayette High School.
"I am very grateful to Fr. Wildes, Dr. Petty, Dr. Giorlando, Coach Kennedy, and the entire search committee for affording me my first head coaching position. I also want to thank UTPA Head Coach Brian Yale for providing me the opportunity to play and coach under his guidance. He gave me the autonomy and support that prepared me for this step in my career," commented Frederick.
Frederick spent her collegiate playing days at Cleveland State for three years (2004-06) and at Owens Community College in Ohio for one year (2003). She played in the defensive specialist position. During her junior and senior campaigns, Frederick played a key role in leading the team to two winning records (19-10, 19-9) and earned American Volleyball Coaches Association regional rankings. While at Owens, the Express completed the season 40-9 and finished fifth in the National Junior College Association National Tournament.
Frederick has a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Cleveland State University and a master of science in sport management from Illinois State University.
