(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans head men’s and women’s cross country and track and field coach Andy Canegitta has announced the signing of Kennedi Henneberger to the 2013 signing class.
Henneberger joins the Wolf Pack from Richardson, Texas where she lives with her parents Joe and Twiggy. She attended Ursuline Academy of Dallas where she played soccer and ran cross country and track. As a cross country runner, she was a member of the 2012 State Championship team. She also finished in the top 10 in the TAPPS 5A Cross Country Championship in three of her four seasons. She qualified for state in the two mile all four years posting a personal best of 11:31. She has also won multiple all-state and all-district honors as a cross country runner.
Henneberger also stood out on the track as she competed in the TAPPS 5A Track and Field Championships in three straight seasons in either the 1600 or 3200 meter races. Her teams won state championships in 2010 and 2011. She has qualified for state three times coming into the current track season. Henneberger has posted personal bests of 5:23.98 in the 1600m, 11:51.56 in the 3200m, 8:11.32 in the 2000m steeplechase, and 2:35.12 in the 800m.
On the soccer field, Henneberger was a co-captain her senior year as her school won the conference championship for the 23rd consecutive season. Ursuline Academy of Dallas also was a two time state champion with Henneberger on the field. She also started for the FC Dallas 95 youth team, a club team which finished seventh in the North Texas region and were the League Champion of Division 2.
“Kennedi is another athlete that I’ve been recruiting for a couple years and I am excited that she chose Loyola to further her athletic and academic career,” said coach Canegitta. “She will make an immediate impact on the cross country and track distance program. I believe she has the potential to surpass all of her high school performances. I am very optimistic about this upcoming season with the addition of Kennedi.”
Henneberger’s grandfather John Henneberger played basketball and baseball at Loyola from 1958 to 1961.
Kennedi Henneberger is the first recruit for the cross country team and the second recruit to join the 2013 signing class for the Loyola track and field team. Courtney Jicks was the first to sign a national Letter of Intent to run track and study at Loyola.
