Jasmine Brewer looks to lead Wolf Pack into conference tournament

(New Orleans, La.) Loyola University New Orleans women’s hoops will matchup against Auburn University Montgomery in the regular season finale for both teams. The game will tip off at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23rd at AUM’s Physical Education Complex.

Loyola (11-14, 8-9) is currently holding on to the final spot in the conference tournament. The Pack are tied with Mobile for fourth and fifth, but are just one game in front of Spring Hill. The top five teams qualify for the postseason. Spring Hill will host Mobile in the last game of the year. The Wolf Pack need to beat AUM to avoid becoming embroiled in a three way tie. AUM (20-8, 12-5) received votes in the last poll and is sitting comfortably in the western division’s second seed.

The two teams met up earlier in the season, as AUM came away from The Den with a 45-40 victory. AUM led for most of the game, but Loyola rallied from a 12 point deficit to tie the game. The Pack were unable to score in the last 2:36 and fell to the Warhawks. Janeicia Neely had 13 points while Jasmine Brewer had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. The Warhawks were led by Psachal Maize who scored 15. LaKenya Drayton added 12 points and eight rebounds.

The Wolf Pack are coming off a difficult 51-50 loss to Belhaven. The Pack took their first lead of the second half with 26 seconds left on a Rebekah Greer three pointer, but Ashley Wakefield hit two free throws to give Belhaven the victory. Loyola had a two game winning streak headed into the game against Belhaven. The streak included victories over Spring Hill and 16th ranked Faulkner University.

Auburn Montgomery is coming off a 61-57 loss to last place William Carey. Prior to that setback the Warhawks were on a two game winning streak with double-digit victories over Spring Hill and Mobile.

The Wolf Pack is led by Brewer who averages 14.6 points per game on 50.2% shooting from the field. She ranks 29th in the NAIA with 9.0 rebounds per game and leads the team with 1.46 steals a game. Neely is 26th in the country with 4.2 assists a night while also putting up 11 points per game. Megen Berner is third on the team in scoring with a 9.4 average.

Drayton is AUM’s top scorer and rebounder with averages of 12.6 points and 8.04 rebounds per game. Keisha Moore is the only other Warhawk who averages in double figures as she puts up 10.2 points per game. Kamesha Strong averages a team best 3.2 assists per tilt.
